摘要:
Root hypodermis passage cells (PCs) lack suberin and lignin deposition, responsible for nutrient absorption and arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization, which are crucial for root resource acquisition. Nevertheless, their quantitative variability across diverse woody species and their relationships with root morphology and anatomy, as well as arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization, are still not well understood. Herein, the number and proportion of PCs in the root cross-section, root morphology, anatomy, and arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization rate were quantified across 10 temperate and 12 tropical woody species. The objectives of this study were to determine how PCs vary across contrasting environmental conditions and to explore their relationships with arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization rate and other root functional traits. The results showed that tropical species possessed 56% more PCs than temperate species; by contrast, they had similar proportions of PCs. In both biomes, the number of PCs had a tightly positive correlation with arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization rate (R2 = 0.35–0.87), root diameter (R2 = 0.84–0.93), and cortex thickness (R2 = 0.87–0.89), but the proportion of PCs was mostly independent of root morphological and anatomical traits. Our results suggest that variation in passage cells could well explain the tight linkage between arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization and root diameter across species and biomes, which provides insight into the collaboration gradient between plant roots and mycorrhizal fungi that dominates the root economics space. © 2022 by the authors. 摘要:
Although iron reduction coupled with antimony (Sb) behavior change has attracted increasing interest in recent years, this process has not yet been well addressed in paddy soils under natural flooding conditions. This study investigates the iron reduction process in paddy soils using a stationary flooding incubation experiment. The paddy soils used in the study contained 199, 329 and 450 mg/kg of Sb (referred to as LS, MS and HS, respectively). Results showed that iron reduction lasted for 12–14 d under simulated flooding conditions at 25 °C, with the highest total Fe(II) being 778, 791 and 782 mg/kg in LS, MS and HS, respectively. Through the iron reduction process, easily reducible iron (Fe2) and reducible iron (Fe3) decreased by 26.1–38.4% and 4.03–12.8%, respectively, indicating that small fractions of iron oxides underwent reductive dissolution. The abundant phyla of iron-reducing bacteria in these soils were Proteobacteria, Firmicutes and Actinobacteriota. Moreover, up to 14 genera were identified as abundant iron-reducing bacteria in these paddy soils. Among, the most abundant genera were Azospirillum and Magnetospirillum, which are also known to mediate the iron nutrition supply for plants and magnetite formation, respectively. Along with iron reduction, iron oxide-incorporated Sb decreased by 7.87–17.3%, while soil surface-bound Sb increased by 42.4–60.4%. This demonstrates that substantial Sb released from iron reductive dissolution was adsorbed on the soil surface. In addition, the total aqueous Sb increased by 24.9–33.0 μg/L through iron reduction in these flooding soils, indicating that iron reduction promoted Sb mobilization in paddy soils under flooding conditions. Sb was synchronously reduced to Sb(III), with Sb(III) accounting for 51.1–59.4% of the total citric acid extracted Sb at the end of iron reduction. However, the aqueous Sb(III) was lower by orders of magnitude than the corresponding Sb(V) in these soils. This might imply that the strong adsorption affinity of Sb(III) to the soil solid facilitated the increase in soil surface-bound Sb in all flooded paddy soils. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

摘要:
The transparent inhibition zone by p-coumaric acid (pCA) proving its inhibitory effect on quorum sensing. The treatment with a mixture of 0.1% Potassium Sorbate (PS)+0.01% pCA resulted in gradual inhibition of the viable counts of meat. In addition, the microbial counts of the samples treated with the mixture of pCA and PS were significantly lower than that treated with PS alone, which indicated that the effect of the mixture on bacteria and protein decomposition was stronger than that of PS alone, which can better delay the spoilage of meat. P-coumaric acid reduced the generation of biogenic amines, mitigating the spoilage of chilled pork meat. During sensory evaluation, pork meat treated with the mixture of pCA and PS scored higher than the control group. P-coumaric acid could be used to reduce the amount of PS, and the application of the mixture greatly enhanced the preservation efficiency and the quality of pork. © 2020, © 2020 The Author(s). Main findings: The Sb resistant bacterium impacted the fraction and quantity of IP on rice roots, and it decreased the Sb concentrations in rice shoots. © 2019 Elsevier LtdIron plaque (IP) is crucial in mitigating antimony (Sb) uptake and accumulation in rice plants, while, few studies focused on the effect of the iron plaque-associated Sb resistant bacteria on IP and Sb uptake into rice plants. Here, the effect of a Sb resistant bacterium (GenBank accession No. MH345840, with potential of conversion soluble Sb(III) into insoluble Sb2O3) on IP and Sb(III)/Sb(V) uptake under hydroponic condition was investigated. The results showed that in the presence of Sb(III), a large quantity of bacterial cells consorted with IP on rice roots, the bacterial inoculum altered the IP fraction distribution without enhancing its amount. However, it reduced Sb(III) uptake into rice roots. On contrary, seldom bacterial cells associated with the IP on rice roots in the presence of the Sb(V), the bacterial inoculum increased the IP amount slightly, and did not decline the Sb(V) uptake into rice roots. It also showed that the bacterial inoculum decreased Sb concentrations in rice shoots greatly in both Sb(III) and Sb(V) supplied treatments. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

The active sites of a mixed Cu/Ce material and the doping effect of typical element (iron, Fe) on the active species and the catalytic behavior of Cu/Ce for CO preferential oxidation in rich H 2 (CO-PROX) were investigated by in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS), in situ oxygen storage capacity measurement (OSC) combined with designed temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), along with Raman, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and temperature-programmed desorption/reduction of CO (CO-TPD/TPR). These results showed that two kinds of surface active center were involved in the CuCe- and Fe-doped CuCe systems, that is, Cu + as adsorption sites for the chemisorption and the activation of CO molecules, the surface reactive oxygen (the highly dispersed oxygen and surface lattice oxygen) that directly participated in the whole CO oxidation process. The addition of Fe into CuCe sample resulted in the incorporation of Fe into CeO 2 lattice forming Fe-O-Ce structure and generated more oxygen vacancies, which not only enhanced the interaction between Cu and Ce to form more Cu + absorption sites but also trapped the gas-phase oxygen and promoted the release of subsurface lattice oxygen to supply more reactive oxygen. Thus, the turnover frequency (TOF) value was increased from 3.62 × 10 -2 s -1 for CuCe to 4.50 × 10 -2 s -1 for Fe-doped CuCe. Moreover, with the enhancement of the lattice oxygen migration combined with the promotional role of Fe on the water gas shift (WGS), the capacity of the resistance to CO 2 and H 2 O was enhanced for Fe-doping CuCe, and the corresponding stability time was largely prolonged from 170 to 400 h, in the coexistence of CO 2 and H 2 O. © 2019 American Chemical Society.

摘要:
Although isomer-specific bioaccumulation of dechlorane plus (DP) has been addressed in many studies, it remains unclear which factors determine this process and whether biotransformation of DP occurs in organisms. Comparative experiments were conducted in both in vivo and in ovo incubation using hens and eggs to identify the dominant factors determining the bioaccumulation of DP. Hens and fertilized eggs were exposed to DP isomers (syn- and anti-DP) by feeding and spiking, respectively, to investigate absorption, elimination, and metabolism. No significant differences were found between absorption efficiencies of DP isomers in the adult hens. Following first-order kinetics, anti-DP exhibited a slightly longer half-life than syn-DP as well as an elevated anti-DP fraction in laid eggs, thereby suggesting selective enrichment of anti-DP in adult hens. However, chicken embryos metabolized approximately 12% and 28% of the absorbed syn- and anti-DP, respectively, thereby verifying that and-DP was preferably metabolized. This result indicated that stereo-selective excretion of syn-DP, rather than preferred metabolism of anti-DP, played a more prominent role in isomer-specific bioaccumulation of DP in chickens. Further studies on metabolites of DP are crucial to understanding the fate of DP in organisms. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

To better understand the Sb phytoavailability in rice, we studied Sb accumulation in rice (Zhongjiazao-17, widely cultivated in Hunan province) at different growth stages based on adding SbIII and SbV to waterlogged soils in 10, 50 and 100 mg kg−1 treatment levels. Proportional exogenous SbIII and SbV remained in the soil solution after equilibration. In SbIII treatments, the iron plaque (IP) amounts and Sb in rice roots sharply increased from tillering to jointing stages and then reduced at the following stages. However, in SbV treatments, they increased continuously from tillering to maturing stages. The accumulation trends of Sb in straws, ears and grains were consistent in SbIII and SbV treatments, rising from tillering to jointing stages followed with reducing from jointing to flowering stages slightly, and rising again significantly from flowering to maturing stages. The Tfsoil-grain values in all the Sb treatments were low (0.77 × 10−3-5.1 × 10−3), However, when Sb in waterlogged soils were higher than 50 mg kg−1, it could pose human health risk for residents. Proportional of SbIII and SbV still remained in soil solutions; The Sb accumulation trends at different rice growth stages were various. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

A combination of previous studies and the present study indicated species-specific debromination of polybromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in teleost fish. Three situations of debromination were found, namely rapid debromination represented by debromination of BDE 99 to BDE 47 observed in common carp, tilapia, crucian carp, and oscar fish; slow debromination represented by debromination of BDE 99 to BDE 49 observed in the abovementioned fish and rainbow trout, salmon, and snakehead; and no or minor debromination observed in catfish. The results of experiments on cofactors, inhibitors, and substrate competitors indicated that activities of outer ring deiodinase of 3, 3', 5'-triiodothyronine (type I deiodinase), which cannot be inhibited by 6-propyl-2-thiouracil, were responsible for the rapid debromination, and the outer ring deiodinase of thyroxine (type II deiodinase) regulated the slow debromination. The debromination of BDE 99 to BDE 49 was more common, but occurred at a much lower rate (approximately 100 times lower) than the debromination of BDE 99 to BDE 47. This was because the activity of type II deiodinase was nearly two orders of magnitude lower than that of type I deiodinase in the fish species studied. Further studies on debromination of PBDEs and properties of deiodinase in more species are needed to confirm the hypothesis. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A series of CuO–CeO<inf>2</inf>catalyst samples synthesized by using various methods (CuCe-SF-N, CuCe-UGC-N, CuCe-SG-N and CuCe-ST-N) and copper precursors (CuCe-SF-N, CuCe-SF-C, CuCe-SF-A and CuCe-SF-S) were estimated for CO preferential oxidation in H<inf>2</inf>-rich streams. It was found that both synthesis routes and copper precursors have an important effect on catalytic behaviors of CuO–CeO<inf>2</inf>catalyst. Compared to CuCe-UGC-N, CuCe-SG-N and CuCe-ST-N, CuCe-SF-N exhibits the lowest temperature and the widest temperature window for 100% CO conversion (about 50 °C), which should be attributed to synergistic effects of smaller crystallite size, the formation of more Cu<sup>+</sup>species together with the high ratio of Ce<sup>3+</sup>/(Ce<sup>3+</sup>+Ce<sup>4+</sup>). Among the four catalysts prepared with different Cu precursors (CuCe-SF-N, CuCe-SF-C, CuCe-SF-A and CuCe-SF-S), the corresponding CO conversions of them are in the order of CuCe-SF-N >CuCe-SF-A >CuCe-SF-C »CuCe-SF-S. The lowest catalytic activity of CuCe-SF-S should be due to the presence of SO<inf>4</inf><sup>2−</sup>species covered on the surface of the catalyst, which not only results in the formation of the less Cu active species but inhibits the interaction between Cu species and CeO<inf>2</inf>. In addition, the optimal CuCe-SF-N catalyst displays relative stability during the 200 h time-on-stream test even in the presence of H<inf>2</inf>O and CO<inf>2</inf>. ©2017 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

The microbial flora of naturally fermented Suan yu was investigated by phenotype combined with gene analysis at different stages of fermentation. Results shows that lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeast were gradually increased during fermentation and the counts were ripening to 7.93–8.56 and 5.14–5.75 log cfu/g, respectively, at the end of the fermentation. Staphylococci gradually increased during the first fermentation stage and then slowly decreased until the end of ripening (4.13–4.92 log cfu/g). Majority of the LAB isolated from Suan yu were Lactobacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus, followed by Leuconostoc and Lactobacillus paralimentarius species. The yeast mainly consisted of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Hansenula anomala. The predominant Staphylococcus isolated from Suan yu comprised Staphylococcus saprophyticus and Staphylococcus xylosus. The main microorganism in early fermentation included Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Pseudomonas and Enterobacteriaceae and the followed subsequent stage included L. plantarum, P. pentosaceus, S. xylosus, S. saprophyticus, S. cerevisiae and H. anomala. Practical Applications: In this study, the specific microorganisms and their microbial dynamics were investigated during Suan yu fermentation. Results showed that lactic acid bacteria, coagulase-negative Staphylococci and yeat were predominant microorganisms during the ripening fermentation. Therefore, these predominant organisms are responsible for the Suan yu unique flavor, taste, color and ensure their safety. Furthermore, selecting the most appropriate autochthonous microflora as starter formulation can effectively preserve the typical characteristics of the Suan yu. ©2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Human CC chemokine receptor (CCR) 5 is a G protein-coupled receptor involved in a broad range of human diseases that mediates HIV-1 viral entry into cells. Certain small molecule receptor antagonists to CCR5 have been useful in therapy for these diseases. In this study, CCR5-expressing CHO cells (CHO/CCR5 cells) were used to select CCR5-binding peptides from a phage-displayed 12-mers peptide library. All of the 30 clones selected from the library showed specific binding to CHO/CCR5 cells by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Seventeen out of the 30 clones shared the amino acid motif AFDWTFVPSLIL. The motif-containing phages and synthetic peptide AFDWTFVPSLIL blocked the binding of mAb 2D7 to CHO/CCR5 cells and competitively inhibited the ability of chemokine regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES) binding to CHO/CCR5 cells. Furthermore, the peptide AFDWTFVPSLIL also inhibited RANTES induced increase in the intracellular Ca2+ level in CHO/CCR5 cells. These results suggest that the peptide AFDWTFVPSLIL was specific for CCR5 and that it might become a CCR5 antagonist.
