The SEM images of the obtained pristine TiO2 and TiO2@NC are displayed in Fig. 1a and b, respectively. It cannot be more obvious that both samples appear well-shaped spheroidicity with the major radius of approximately 100 nm and semi-major radius of around 60 nm, distinctly affirming that the morphology of pristine TiO2 can be preserved in TiO2@NC after N-doped carbon coating. N-doped carbon coated TiO2nanoparticles (TiO2@NC) were synthesized through a simple two-step route, in which dopamine was simultaneously utilized as both nitrogen and carbon sources. With TiO2@NC applied in the Na-ion battery (SIB) anodes, the continuous and uniform N-doped carbon layer can not only enhance the electrical conductivity of TiO2and facilitate the surface pseudocapacitive process, but also serve as a buffer layer to accommodate the volume expansion during the sodiation–desodiation processes.
