在解读湘西传统文化内涵的基础上，分析了转型背景下湘西传统文化的现代性特征，并提出了其资源个性化开发的建议。湘西传统文化在资源有机更新与发展的内动力，经济效益的吸引力和城镇化、社会经济现代化的外推力的综合作用下，发生了现代化转型，呈现出商业模式化、产业集群化、经济利益化、开发规模化等趋势，表现出节目化、日常化、大众化、标准化、商品化、趋同化、产品化、规模化等现代特征。研究认为，可通过识别湘西传统文化基因、展示个性文化资源、建设专题博物馆、构建传统文化补偿机制、完善开发体系等途径，实现其资源的个性化开发。
