情事变更原则是现代各国处理合同问题的一项重要原则。很多国家都把情事变更作为合同解除的条件。情事变更原则的本质是维护合同自由。我国合同解除制度以维护合同自由为其指导思想。情事变更与解除合同的关系在于通过情事变更原则 ,严格限制一方当事人在情事发生变更后 ,滥用解除合同的权利。
