从两种语言对比中概括出的规律往往很有启发性,但是还不具有普遍意义。跨语言的现象表明,英汉形容词概念化上的差异及其对句法的影响不是孤例,其他语言中也有平行的现象。概念化层次上缺失的语义特征会在句法层次上得到补偿,许多语言中形容词不能直接作谓语而必须借助表达时间信息的系词引导说明了这一问题。从类型学视角看待英汉形容词概念化差异也有助于重新认识汉语形容词的词类地位。

Laws drawn from comparison between two languages can be instructive but lack universality. The present cross- linguistic investigation demonstrates that the different conceptualizations of adjectives in English and Chinese and their effects on syntax can be found in many other languages. The absence of certain semantic feature on conceptualization level will be manifested on syntactic level. This is illustrated by the use of copula, which expresses temporal information, to introduce adjectives in predicate position among many languages. Further...
