A new Cd(II) complex [Cd(C12H6O4N 2)(Phen)2(H2O)]·3H2O with 2,2′-bipyridine-3,3′-dicarboxylic acid as a ligand has been synthesized. Crystal data for the title complex are as follows: monoclinic, space group P21/n, a = 12.8458(5), b = 17.9131(7), c = 15.2960(6) Å, β = 111.7430(10)°, V = 3269.3(2) Å3, D c = 1.581 g/cm3, Z = 4, μ(MoKα) = 0.731 mm -1, F(000) = 1580, the R = 0.0244 and wR = 0.0605.
