A new synthetic intermediate 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-ethyl-1,3-dioxane-5-carboxylic acid, derived from the reaction of 2,2′-bis(hydroxymethyl)butyric acid with 4-chlorobenzaldehyde, has been prepared and characterized by IR spectra and 1H NMR spectroscopy.
