在《生死十日谈》中，作家孙惠芬以探寻死亡缘由为切入点，通过展示意外死亡降临过的家庭中的夫妻、父子、兄弟之间的矛盾纠葛，揭示出乡村家庭伦理道德普遍失序的现状，揭示了贫病与乡村城镇化进程带来的生存黑洞。作家多方探寻摆脱苦难的方法，如皈依神灵和宗教、回归大自然、专家的心理治疗等，希望政府和社会能够关注和救助农村中贫病的弱势人群，也希望每一个苦难的生命个体都能进行自我救赎，更坚韧、更有尊严地活下去。

The author of The Decameron of Life and Death, Sun Huifen, takes causes of suicide as the leading-in point, and reflects both the disordered ethical balance and survival dark hole in the back country during the process of urbanization by displaying family members ’ entangled affection faced by their sudden bereavement. In order to help the troubled people out of ordeal, the author tries every means, such as turning to religions, coming back to nature, resorting to psychological help and so on.
