Bis(tricyclohexyltin) pimelicarboxylate, [(CH_2)_5(CO_2SnCy_3)_2] (1), has been synthesized by the reaction of tricyclohexyltin hydroxide with pimelic acid and characterized by means of IR, ~1H and ~(13)C NMR, elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 crystallizes in triclinic space group P-bar1 with a = 11.569(3), b = 12.0419(2), c = 17.3988(4) A, a = 81.4310(10), β= 79.8270(10), γ = 69.7060(10)°, V = 2227.60(9) A~3, Z = 2, C_43H_(76)O_4Sn_2, M_r = 894.42, D_c = 1.333 g?cm~(-3), μ = 1.157 mm~(-1), F(000) = 932, GOOF = 1.339, the final R = 0.0452 and wR = 0.1333 for 6709 observed reflections (I>2σ(I)). Complex 1 shows discrete dimeric structures and the tin atoms have a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The 1D chain structure of complex 1 is formed by intermolecular Sn???O interactions. Complex 1 displays good thermal stability under 553 K and has selective antibacterial property. Complex 1 is strong in vitro anti-tumor activity against five human tumor cell lines, Colo205, HepG2, MCF-7, Hela and NCI-H460, and is significantly higher than that in the clinical use of carboplatin.

In order to investigate the embryological characteristics of Delavaya toxocarpa Franch. and provide a basis for further understanding the phylogeny within Sapindaceae s.l., we studied the sporogenesis and gametogenesis of D. toxocarpa using the conventional paraffin section method. The results were as follows: anthers are tetrasporangium; tapetum is typically secretory type; cytokinesis in the microsporecyte meiosis is of the simultaneous type and microspore tetrads are tetrahedral; mature pollen contains two cells; the ovary is bilocular with two ovules per locule; placentation is axial; the ovule is amphitropous, bitegmic, and crassinucellate; the chalazal megaspore in a linear tetrad becomes functional; and the development of megaspore is of the polygonum type. Most similarities shared by the species observed suggest that the species and genera of Sapindaceae s.l. have phylogenetic consistency. The distinctive trait, lacking hypostase, indicates Delavaya (and Handeliodendron) might be more primitive than other genera in Sapindaceae. Moreover, some characters, such as opposite palmate compound leaf, apical thyrse, rounded seed without wing, 2 hemitropous ovules per locule, and lacking aril, indicate the close relationship between Delavaya, Aceraceae, and Hippocastanaceae. The preliminary data about the embryological and morphological characteristics in Delavaya might justify the basic systematic position of this genus in the family Sapindaceae s.s.

Tricyclohexyltin 4-amino-3-methyl-benzoate (1) and tricyclohexyltin 3,4-dime-thoxybenzoate (2) were synthesized and their crystal structures were determined by X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 belongs to the monoclinic system, space group P2_(1/c) with a = 14.0554(15), b = 11.6947(13), c = 16.2720(17) A,Z = 4, V= 2565.7(5) A~3, D_c = 1.341 g?em~(-3), μ(MoKa) = 1.016 mm~(-1), F(000) = 1080, R= 0.0833 and wR = 0.2964. Compound 2 is of monoclinic system, space group C2Jc with a = 17.8712(6), b = 8.4433(3), c = 35.5783(13) A, Z= 8, V= 5366.8(3) A~3, D_c = 1.360 g?cm~(-3), μ(MoKa) = 0.980 mm-1, F(000) = 2288, R= 0.0549, wR= 0.1279. In compounds 1 and 2, the central Sn atom is coordinated in a tetradentate manner to assume a distorted tetrahedral configuration. Preliminary biological tests showed that these two compounds have strong acaricidal activity.

The Schiff base organotin(IV) complex {[4-Et_2NC_6H_3(O)C=NC_6H_3(O)-5-NO_2](n-Bu_2Sn)}_2 has been synthesized via the reaction between 4-(diethylamino) salicylaldehyde-2-amino-4-nitrophenol Schiff base (H_2L) and dibutyltin oxide. Complex C1 has been characterized by IR, ~1H NMR, ~(13)C NMR spectra, and elemental analysis, and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P2_(1/n) with a = 15.6559(8), b = 9.1657(5), c = 18.8351(10) A, β = 107.3440(10)°, Z = 4, V = 2579.9(2) A3, D_c = 1.442 Mgm~(-3), μ(MoKa) = 1.025 mm~(-1), F(000) = 1152, R = 0.0250 and wR = 0.0633. The central Sn atom is coordinated in a hexadentate manner to assume a distorted octahedral configuration. Complex C1 was studied by TGA analysis in air atmosphere. The interaction between complex C1 and the herring sperm DNA was realized through the intercalation of the complex based on the studies by EB fluorescent probe.

The floral organogenesis and development of Delavaya toxocarpa Franch. (Sapindaceae) were studied under scanning electron microscope and light microscope to determine its systematic position within Sapindaceae. Flowers arise in terminal thyrses. The sepal primordia initiate in a spiral (2/5) sequence, which are not synchronous. The five petal primordia initiate almost synchronously and alternate with sepal primordia. Eight stamens initiate almost simultaneously and their differentiation precedes that of the petals. The last formed petal and one stamen initiate from a common primordium. Mature stamens curve inwards and cover the ovary in bud. The gynoecium begins as a hemispheric primordium on which two carpellary lobes arise simultaneously. Later in development a single gynocium is formed with two locules and two ovules per locule. Floral morphology suggests a closer affinity with Sapindaceae, although certain features of floral ontogenesis are similar to those observed in certain members of the former Hippocastanaceae, such as Handeliodendron.

A novel organotin hydration dibenzyltin dichloride has been synthesized and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystal belongs to monoclinic, space group Pc with a = 1.1918(5), b = 0.6199(2), c = 1.1074(5) nm, β = 106.899(7)°, V= 0.7828(8) nm3, Z = 2, Dc = 1.654 g/cm3, μ(MoKa) = 19.59 cm-1, F(000) = 384, R = 0.0564 and RwR = 0.1427. The Sn-C bonds are 0.2140(9) and 0.2152(5) nm, Sn-Cl are 0.2385(4) and 0.2497(3) nm, and Sn-0 is 0.2388(7) nm. The tin atom is five-coordinated in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal configuration. The study on the title complex has been performed with quantum chemistry calculation by means of G98W package on the Lanl2dz basis set. The stability of the complex as well as the orbital energies and composition characteristics of some frontier molecular orbitals has been investigated.
